Historically Ísafjörður was always a significant town in Iceland. 150 years ago it even had a similar population size as Reykjavik. It may not be as significant today, but it still has a certain city vibe. It has schools and a university, hospital, movie theatre, bars, music and arts schools, bakeries and restaurants. All one needs to live comfortably.
